Stazione Sperimentale per i Combustibili
(SSC, Fuel Experimental Station) is an experimental institute
that operates within the framework of the Italian Department
of Industry.
SSC is involved in activities connected with fossil fuels
and derived products.
SSC was founded in 1940 replacing of the Fuel Section of
the Institute of Industrial Chemistry in Bologna.
In 1965, the SSC location was moved from the Institute of
Industrial Chemistry - Technical University of Milan, to
San Donato Milanese, the present location, on the southern
outskirts of Milan.
About seventy people are employed in the various laboratories
of SSC. Twenty staff members hold University degrees in
chemistry or industrial chemistry.
Students and graduates attend research activities.
Financial support is obtained from fuel importing companies
(gas, petroleum, coal), from the analytical work, research
and consultancy performed at SSC.
Fuel companies, Departments, Universities and Research Institutions
are represented on the Board of Directors, appointed by
the Secretary of Industry.
The Institute is accredited by SINAL for a series of test
methods on fuels (EN 45001)
