Knock characteristics of motor fuels and ignition quality of diesel are determined according to ISO test methods (ISO 5164, ISO 5163, and ISO 5165, respectively). All tests are qualified by the Italian Laboratory Accreditation Body (SINAL).
The performance of CFR engines of National Oil Industry is verified periodically. Top overhaul of CFR cylinders and maintenance of the overall fuel testing units are performed at refinery laboratories.
Round robin tests on automotive fuels and on vehicle emissions are carried out within CUNA (National Unification Commission for the Automobile) activity and jointly with the IP (UK) and the NEG (USA) circuits.

Emission tests are carried out on chassis dynamometer by reproducing operating conditions of in-use vehicle according to the conventional (ECE, EPA, etc.) and unconventional procedures (typically by driving cycles).
